2013-10-19 Rebecca's Baptism

As most of my friends and all my family know, we're members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly called "Mormons."
In our church, we don't practice infant baptism but rather wait until a child is accountable.  For accountability we assume the age of 8 which is a very special day for most young people.  Since I have such a large family, I typically don't share much about our 11 children or our 30+ grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Forgive me for generalizing but our granddaughter Rebecca's baptism is an example of this special day which we're so proud of for all our family.

Since Rebecca's mom has a degree in music, she shared some special music which the whole family was asked to sing.

Rebecca's mom, Rainey, also had a special book she put together to help Rebecca remember the day.

I had the guest of honor pose for this picture.

After people are baptized in our church, they have the Holy Ghost bestowed by the laying on of hands as was done in the times of Jesus' day.
Rebecca's Aunt Andrea displays a gift box while giving a talk on the gift of the Holy Ghost.

After the solemn ordinances were performed, family gathered in the hall at a table to write a memory for Rebecca.  Some also posed for photos.
What a handsome young man!

Rebecca's father, Israel, a naturalized American Citizen, is the proud father.
Our son-in-law sets a good example for the rest of the family.

Family members gather in the hallway of the church to chat.

Finally, it's time to go home and celebrate Rebecca's birthday.
Let's Pah - tay!

Family members gather at the house.

Party decorations?  Cool!

Some watch the game ...

While others play "Toss the Baby."

"Don't worry folks.  I got him."

"Yeah!  We were wonderin' about that."

"Time for cake and ice cream"  Yum!

Happy Birthday Rebecca

After cake and ice cream, Rebecca watches a movie with some of the girls.

Then it's time to open the presents!

And what a gift it is.  It's a family tradition that when we reach the age of baptism it's time to receive our very own scriptures.
