Day
2 of our travel to Utah continues...
We
left Kentucky and rode over the Ohio River.
Illinois welcomed us.
We saw the home of Superman!
The we stopped in the little hamlet of Vienna. It's been a while
since I've seen a Grayhound Bus Station like this.
I thought the cedars growing from a cliff looked odd. Sorry for
the reflection off the windshield. In another spot, they actually
grew by the dozen from cracks in the rock face.
The corn fields in the midwest just go on and on and on and on and...
We had frequent breaks at rest stops.
We saw the arch, the "Gateway to the West." See it below the
"Exit Only" sign?
As we crossed the Missouri River, the state of Missouri welcomed us.
And our best photo yet of the arch.
Of course in St. Louis there are plenty of other interesting things to
see...
These grain silos caught my eye.
I thought the homes on the streets were pretty interesting.
And there were other buildings that obviously were not maintained as
well.
We crossed the Missouri River -- again. (actually we ended up
crossing it 3 times!)
Then we were off, across the entire width of the state of Missouri,
which once was little more than rolling prarie.
I thought the place called "Nostalgiaville USA" was pretty
interesting...
Even though it was only a gift shop.
And there were yet other gift shops...
Like this one called Ozarkland.
Yep, it's the Missouri, again.
And that rolling prarie often seems like it never ends.
But we eventually made it to the City of Independence. Just as we
entered Kansas City, MO, we turned right and headed north toward Iowa.
There are ocasionally these weird bluffs.
But we reached Iowa 'neath cloudy skies.
And saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets we've seen in a while.
Beautiful, isn't it? Time to rest now.
