2010-08-13 & 14 - Shopping, a talent show, and more shopping

(Not to mention the world's greatest Printing Press Museum)

We mostly ate out every day or went shopping over the last few days.  One of our favorite places to eat out here in Provo is the legendary Creamery on 9th.  It's adjacent the BYU campus and everyone's familiar with it.  It's a little different from the average ice cream place.

The BYU Ag department raises it's own cows and processes it's own milk.  You don't hear of that from the average ice cream place.  Their hamburger buns are also unique.  The bread is homemade.  The fries are served in a paper cone shaped like a little inverted dunce cap.  They give you a little metal stand for them.  Cute!

Here's an inside look at the place when it isn't crowded (rare).  Usually for lunch there's a long line.

After we ate, yesterday, we went to the Quilted Bear downtown.

It's a consignment shop where men and women artists bring their crafts.  You can walk up and down the isles and see some really unique gifts.  We got Linda's brother an iron sign you hang on a post.  The sign swivels.  On one side it says, "Welcome."  Rotate it and on the other side it says, "Go away!"  Hahahahaha

From there we hurried back to church before we missed the talent show.  One of the acts was this nice dance number that included all ages.

There were other dance acts that had some very special dancers...

Later we saw our friend's act.  These girls were good.

They performed "Matchmaker" from A Fiddler On The Roof.

Last act was a talented young man who writes his own songs.

Next day Linda was attracted by these brightly colored homes designed like what I would call a "shotgun house."  You expect to see colors like these on the coast.  I saw some almost identical to them in Key West several years ago.

Here are a couple more of them.

Finally we arrived at the Crandall Historical Printing Museum in Provo.

It's quite an interesting place.  Mr. Crandall escorted us in personally and gave us a short tour as he told us the museum doesn't expect many guests this time of the year.  He asked if we could come back in a couple weeks when he would give us a two-hour tour along with another group.  He is one of the nicest men I've ever met.

In closing I thought I would show some photos of our very nice accomodations.
Here's the bedroom we've been sleeping in.  Our friend's daughter gave up her room for us while she prepared to leave for college.

They also give us the use of this downstairs kitchen and a bathroom.  Their main kitchen is upstairs along with other bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a dining room.

Two last shots.  This is our view out their front door every morning.

... and this is the last thing we see before we go to bed every night.
