We
served in the Family and Church History Mission of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Temple Square in Salt Lake City Utah in
2007 and 2008. Most of the people we served with we haven't seen
in two years.
A few weeks ago several of us were emailing back and forth about
upcoming trips to Utah. We discovered that at least 4 of us
couples who served in Worldwide Support would be in Utah the same
week.
The Lord was surely smiling on us.
As we corresponded with those who live in Utah, Sherry volunteered to
make reservations for us. We found a day that would be best for
most of us. Some had to make other arrangements to be
there. In all, we had great attendence.
In all there were more than 20 people there. Some came from all
over Utah, some from California, Some from South Carolina...
... some from Florida, from all over. We had a great meal and
enjoyed each other's company. But the restaurant atmosphere
didn't allow for us to visit much.
So Sherry invited us to her house for a chance to visit a little more.
She didn't live far and we were able to get chairs and set them up
outside where we could have a nice visit with one another without
having to worry about tables or noise.
We learned about some new changes planned for Indexing, our church's
software for entering text data from photographs of records.
We talked about recent changes in new FamilySearch, our church's
software for keeping up with family relationships and family history.
One of the couples who attended were Area Family History Advisors for
Florida. They told us of more recent software changes and plans
for further enhancements.
During our mission service together we had all worked in a group that
supported our church's family history software. And we enjoyed
visiting with each other and catching up on what each is doing nowadays.
As we chatted the sky got darker and darker.
Before long, it was nightfall and nearing bedtime.
We enjoyed some last minute humor.
We had wondered as we drove into the neighborhood in a string of
vehicles if we were attracting strange glances from the neighbors.
But as we began talking about wrapping things up, Sherry had another
thing to offer...
ICE CREAM! And watermelon, too!
So we ate our ice cream as we finished enjoying conversation with one
another.
And just before we all left, we noticed one more funny thing -- across
the street, through a very large picture window, was an even larger TV
screen. We joked as we asked, "Where are the little speaker cans
you hang on your window?" It looked every bit like a drive-in
theater. Haha. Yes, only folks our age would see the humor
in that.
note: if anyone wants larger photos, just let me know which
photos. they number 1 through 17 beginning at the top. send
