I promised an update when I completed
things. I didn't expect to complete them so quickly.
There's more to do for sure but here's the completed loft
(shelf). As you can see I have enough clearance in the center I
can double stack some things. The loft lets me use more of the 12
foot ceiling in the middle of the storage building.
I took a friend's advice and reinforced the center support with a metal
brace. The shelf was strong enough to support my weight (220
lbs.) while I was crawling around on top of it nailing it down but I
want it to support at least 1000 lbs. gross weight in the center.
This will do the job I'm sure.
I bought these plastic shelves from Wal-Mart. The last shelves I
bought like this cost over $50 each and would hold 1000 lbs.
each. These shelves were only $39 each but they'll only hold 750
lbs. a piece. I think that will work well.
They come in units that interlock for added strength. They seem
really stable and secure. To keep them from any danger of tipping
I'll anchor the top corner with a metal angle bracket.
The little A/C window unit has kept the inside environment ideal for my
purposes.
This is probably the last update I'll have on the storage
building. There's not much left but to get the remainder of our
stuff from rented storage then stock these shelves. Thanks for
staying tuned. I'm grateful for all your comments and
suggestions. Please let me know how you feel about the emails
I've sent.
