We've been wanting and needing a
freezer but we had no place to put one. Now with the extra space
in the new storage building there's room. Linda wanted an upright
and I thought it would be great to get a good energy saver.
This Frigidaire keeps nearly 27 cu. ft. of frozen foods at any temp you
want down to about 24 below. And it has a door alarm, power loss
alarm, and other goodies, as well as it's economical.
We're blessed that Linda's son raises cattle with his dad and
generously shares with us. His beef is superb. This is
farming country and there are also often opportunities to accept large
quantities of fruit and vegetables we could freeze for later (not to
mention when ice cream goes on sale!).
But to keep canned goods and other dry foodstuffs stored for the long
term
it's harmful to let storage temperatures get much above room
temperature. So I bought a Frigidaire 8,000 btu Air Conditioner
that's also highest rated on energy savings. It has an energy
saver feature that helps a lot with operating cost.
Instead of mechanical controls, it has an electronic thermostat so I
can set the temperature where it's safe for food storage. For
years I've kept an emergency supply handy and 75 degrees F. is a
comfortable level for it.
Here's the thermometer I keep to monitor the levels. It's located
on the other end of the room.
