2009-02-20 Painted and decorated
Once
all the holes in the trim were filled and the top part of the bookcase
painted, we both thought it was ready to be filled with books and
decorated. The remaining part to be painted can be seen in the
next two photos.
Here's
the bookcase a few days after it was completely painted and decorated.
Note the can of paint and brush on top of the window seat.
Linda wanted a much darker color but this is the best we found.
She was actually going for a barn-door red color. This
looks nice, though.
Here's
the bookcase in December 2010. It's seen a lot of use.
Every time we have a family gathering our large family uses the
seating. The storage underneath is a handy place for quilts and
blankets and other spare household items. But most of all, it's a
gathering point to share what we've learned and hope to learn.
Building
it was a learning
experience for me, not sure it's one I would want to repeat. It
cost over $400 in material but I doubt I could have had it custom built
for that.
This
page had not been updated in 3 years when an email acquaintance in
Australia and I were talking about purchasing books from thrift stores
and discards from the local library (a great way to build your own
library). I also use Amazon.com. While discussing this I
thought it would be a good idea to update the photo. After we
returned to our home in 2012 for our most recent stay out west, my wife
repainted everything including the bookcase. We both think it
looks much better in white. Here's the most recent photo of it
(Feb. 2013).
