What the house looks like today - 02/01/2009
This is where I am right
now. Of course, by the time you read this I'll be elsewhere, I'm
sure. Eventually we hope to build L-shaped counters in two
corners of this room which we'll use for desk space. We'll anchor
them in the corners and support the ends with 2-drawer files.
We'll probably use the closet for food storage and some office supplies.
I love the way Linda did the guest bath. She just lucked up on
getting a shower curtain with exactly the same angel theme as a picture
she already had. Cool. By the way, she fussed at me for
posting a photo of the toilet with the lid up. Hmmm.
Of course we're still unpacking. The guest bedroom/music
room/catch all room has become another staging area for us to see
what's in all those containers we've had in storage for the past two
years. Soon as we can we're gonna remove the blue tape.
Really!
The closets aren't quite as full of storage boxes these days.
Here's a wide-angle shot of the living room with the kitchen and
fireplace to the right and the dining room and front door to the left.
The photo on the opposite wall is Judith Mehr's "The
Eternal Family Through Christ." It's a print of the huge
mural you see as you enter the Family History Library in Salt
Lake. I was very impressed with that picture while we were in
Utah. It's a great symbol of our work there. Linda gave me
the print for a present, Christmas 2007.
Looking toward the fireplace and back yard gives a better view of the
L-shape of our living room. Linda found the sofa and recliners at
a great little country furniture store named Cadwell Furniture.
It's about 30 miles away.
We're still using the dining room for a staging area to unpack
everything.
The kitchen, on the other hand, is pretty much finished
We used our food storage racks on the other side of the kitchen because
we've run out of places to put appliances. They really came in
handy. We'll build shelving for a couple of the closets to store
the food we plan to buy.
Some of it went under our king-sized bed in our bedroom. I
ordered 16 cases to go under the bed in the guest bedroom.
Our dressers may not match but at least now we have places to put
stuff. Thanks to friends Jeff and Judy Boozer for the low
dresser. It's really come in handy.
I finally got around to installing the missing panel in the master
bedroom closet. I put it in with screws so I could remove it if I
ever need to get to the plumbing again. All that remains is for
me to install the crown molding.
Here's what the master bath looks like today.
Yeah, I know. The laundry looks a little cluttered. We want
to put in some more shelving there. We don't have quite enough
pantry space and this would be a handy place for more shelves.
My last two photos are pics of space I haven't taken before. This
is one corner of the living room nearest the door. This large
wall where Linda's curio cabinet is will become our library soon as I
can build the book shelves. I hope to get that done this coming
week. I'm sure I have enough books to fill it up and then
some. We also hope to build a bench seat at the base of the book
shelves for people to sit temporarily.
Across the room is the piano. Linda finally found the right size
blinds and sheers for the door and front windows. As you leave,
please close the door behind you.
Y'all come
back now, y'hear!
