Fireplace and Front Door
The firelace was pretty smutty
and the flue didn't work. There was broken firebrick which yet
needs to be replaced. Linda cleaned it up pretty well.
Still needs replairs. We hope to install unvented gas logs.
We covered the stone to spray
the ceiling and walls.
Then we uncovered it after
painting the rooms.
I cleaned out where the cats had
been using it for a litter box and sprayed it with clorox water and
Febreeze to kill the smell. Then I chipped out the broken
firebrick.
Here's a "before" photo of the
front door.
Here's the inside view of the
front door after replacing the unit.
And here's the exterior of the
new door unit. Glen got a great deal on this unit with sidelights
from a surplus building materials place. He got this one for
about a third the cost of a new one. This was taken after I
painted the door's exterior with two coats of Kilz primer.
And here's a final view of the
new door after the walls were painted.
