2014-06-18 Deck Day-7 -- Bannister & Gate

All during the month, temperatures have gotten hotter and hotter.  I've chugged cold well water and
Powerade like crazy.  On this day, I emptied these bottles plus another after I snapped this
picture - 5 quarts in one day all lost from sweat.

We bought hog wire for the bannister to go between the two deck levels.  Linda painted it bright green.
We may add lattice above the top rail.  We may also replace the lattice gate a hogwire / lattice panel combo.
Linda likes a barrier she can see through.

Here's a better view of the bannister.  A lockable gate is a must for people with small children.  Safety First!

You can keep a gate of any size from sagging with a wire, eyelets, and a turn buckle.

The metal brackets add to the appearance of the bannister in my opinion.  I could have toe-nailed the boards but this looks nicer.

When the gate is open, this eye-hook latches it there.

Here's the gate latched open.  We have lots of work yet but everything is coming along.

Though construction isn't complete, I may not add to these pages.  These pictures show Linda thinks its complete enough to decorate.

She got some of this stuff at the thrift store.  Some she bought at Hobby Lobby.

Is there any question my wife is a sun worshipper?

With the setting sun, I included my favorite decoration -- something I can use.  I'm always wanting to know "What's it for?"

I hope you enjoyed this month-long construction project.  Work isn't done but, as for the pics, "That's all Folks!"
