2014-05-17 Deck Day-3 -- Floor Joists
After Mike Thigpen Construction
was finished replacing the rotted sill I could finish installing the
joists close to the house. In the pic below, you can see about
half of them were installed.
I temporarily laid down some old plywood and set blocks by the deck so we could get in and out of the house.
Here
are more temporary block steps. In the space between joists, I stacked
4" X 4"s. I had to put them someplace and doing this seemed
practical.
From this angle you can see what a sizable gap I had between the deck and the pool
That's where the deck's upper level goes. You can also see my grandson's cat in this picture.
The
deck wasn't the only project we had going. We also got Mike
Thigpen's crew to wire my 2nd storage building which has never had
electricity.
Here's another view of the wide gap between pool and deck where the 2nd deck level goes.
Backing
away, you can see from this shot how the 20' X 24' deck is all on one
end of the house. From the house to the closest (center) point of
the pool is actually 24 ft. 6 inches. From the house to the
farthest point of the pool that touches the deck is 28 feet.
In various emails, I've mentioned the "Polaris." Here it is, the magical little water-propelled pool cleaning robot.
Here's
the Polaris all stretched out. The line closest to the camera is
how the Polaris receives water from the pump. The Polaris is
laying belly up. The 2nd line coming from the bottom of it is attached to a net bag which you can see in the
picture as a white object at the end. This hose blows a jet of
water over the pool bottom which stirs up trash that's then caught by the
net.
