2010-01-07 tearing down the old tool shed

Before we could purchase a new storage building we had to remove an old one that was in the way.

I hired my carpenter son-in-law for the job.  In January it was still quite cold.

I cleared out tools and things from part of the old storage shed.  He climbed on the roof and began removing it.

I had to put my tools in the remaining two sheds.  This one had been an old feed barn.

And this one was an old stable.

Since there were no walls I had to use a large tarp to cover things up.

The old thing may not look like much here but one photo doesn't always tell the whole story.

I remember what it looked like when we first bought the place.  Hard to believe it's the same shed, isn't it?

Once we got the tools placed and covered, my son-in-law began making great headway dismantling the old tool shed.

In a couple hours he had the roof off.

Then it was simply a matter of taking the boards down one at a time.

We saved the good boards to build the new lean-to later on.  Now it was time to remove the roof of the old lean-to.

We prayed that no one would get injured and the roof came crashing down safely away from us.

The wooden parts that were unusable were burned on the trash pile.

The metal parts that were unusable were hauled off to the local land-fill and recycling center.

That's the end of this part of the episode.  Follow directions below to see more.
